Horror tonite on TV

Post by jj »

Ginger Snaps (werewolf) followed by the classic Black Cat (Beeb2).
And something called Road Trips is on Beeb 1- Marino ought to sue......

If it's horror you're into, any Saturday night on ITV1 is the place to be :-(

ginger snaps is something if an overlooked gem, imo. if anyone likes it enough to buy it (as i did) seek out the excellent canadian collectors edition disc - far superior to any of the other regional releases.

ulmers 'black cat' is a baroque, proto-noir masterpiece, repleat with great performances, superb cinematography and an amazing set design.

a very tasty double bill, in fact.

A very funny film IMO. Missed the first half as The Premiership takes priority, although watching our lot, I wish I'd missed it!!
The French Toast scene and the grandad getting a boner and knocking the vase of a table are very funny viewing

The West London of my youth is now on dvd

Ginger Snaps: 'Ginger' great (good title pun, too) as an averagely-
obnoxious teenager, except with nasty pointy teeth. Nice tie-in with the 'menstrual' theory of lycanthropism........The teen angst thing was a bit rich for my blood (get QUITE enough of that in Real Life, TYVM), but a good effort overall- great actors, especially the two principals, and nice to see Mimi R as a ditzy mom (having now forgiven her for her brief fling with Tom Thumb......). Why are the Canadians SO damned good at decent film-
making?
Black Cat: good, if over-mannered (goes with the territory, I supose): set-design v reminiscent of Lang- incredibly atmospheric. Did you spot Boris billed merely as 'Karloff'? Loved the 'so good you won't mind the credits again' schtick........
