Seeing you talking about Vaughan Williams in the other thread I have a CD at home with Serenade to Music & The Lark Ascending but also English Folk Song Suite, Norfolk Rhapsody No1, Fantasia on 'Greensleeves', & In the Fen Country'. All very stirring & very English in their themes.

This sounds like a wonderful set with Sir Adrian Boult on EMI. Can't go wrong, Wink Wink ; great performances of sublime music. There is a definite 'Englishness' about the composer that's hard to define. And of course, for some people that simply won't do. Heaven forbid we celebrate our heritage in such a way. For me, though the music transcends geographical boundaries. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

His first name is Ralph (pronounced RAFE) which is not very Welsh plus the fact that he was born in Gloucestershire, about 20 miles from where I live, in Down Ampney. From my books it appears that his surname is Vaughan williams but is not hyphenated.
