I see residents of this Scottish town want ANOTHER inquiry in lieu of Libya's recent conforming with International laws.
Don't get me wrong, my heart bleeds for the people and victims of Flight 103, but they have their culprit doing 27 years in Scotland, have an apology from Libya including compensation, and everyone else has moved on. So why do they want another? Lots of things were learnt from the original, security was tightened and Pan-Am went bust, so whats the point of another?

They want the truth. Many people are still not convinced that the bad guys have been caught and held to account. Libya may very well have been involved, but there is a strong case suggesting the bombing was ordered by Iran (in revenge for the shooting down of an Iranian jet by the USS Vincennes six months earlier), was bankrolled by Syria and carried out by some Palestinians---and the first two were needed on our side (or at least not getting involved in helping Iraq) during the first Gulf war.
The trial was held in order to prove the guilt of the two Libyans, there was a panel of three high court judges instead of a jury. Instead of hearing what happened, the families of those killed in the atrocity were instead given a series of lectures in forensic science. They still want to know what the CIA connection was---there were certainly enough of the buggers on the ground within hours of the tragedy. And there were enough warnings given about the possibility of a jet being targeted for various people to cancel their seats on that specific flight.
Something about it smells fishier than a fish gutter's gloves, and people will continue to call for an independent inquiry until they get answers to some of those questions---no matter how many years it takes.

I agree that the single person serving time is only one of a number, and I agree that other countries were involved, but what else will come out of this sorry chapter pf terrorism?
