This is a new one to me.
I've noticed that for the last couple of days the banks here in Wellington all have security guards. I was curious enough to ask one if there had been a spate of robberies. No, but in the runup to Xmas some customers lose it, especially if the ATM won't give them any lolly.
Does this happen in the UK?

You mean the Atms not dispensing kit kats,jellybeans & licorice all sorts?

Sounds like a lame reason for a security guard...whats the customer gonna do...ram it with their car...smash it with a sledge hammer

Don't no about New Zealand but in OZ security guards are used for branches which don't have popup screens or are known targets for armed robbers
