Re: Haggis Hunting
This web site makes a mockery of the traditional Haggis Hunt. For a start the photo is certainly NOT of a Haggis!!!
For those who have never been on a Haggis Hunt, the poor creature is, sadly, equipped with legs that are short on one side and long on the other. In the midsts of time this allowed the Haggis to circle around the Bens snuffling out worms, insects, etc from the ground and around boulders with consumate ease. Unfortunately this strange arrangement has also greatly contributed to it's downfall, and the numbers of wild Haggis have declined dramatically over the last century.
The history of the bagpipes is long entwined with the Haggis Hunt, for the sound of the bagpipes is the only thing known to frighten these otherwise tough and resilliant little creatures.
During a Haggis Hunt, a piper is sent to circle a Ben first one way and then the other. The Haggis, hearing such an awful and gut-wrenching noise, turns tail to flee.... only for its long legs to now be Ben-side. The result is that the poor Haggis now rolls and tumbles down the Ben. Those whose brains are not already dashed upon the rocks below are easily captured by the hunters.
The poor creature, its pelt removed, is then boiled and served with "bashed neeps". As a final ignomany, it is heralded into the dinning room by that very instrument that caused its (in a very real sense) downfall; the bagpipes!

Re: Haggis Hunting
Damn fool Haggis, they get everywhere, I found one sitting in the passenger seat of mycar the other day, goin thru me CD,s, they are cheeky bastards, a group of them came knocking on the door pretending to be Jehova,s witnesses, but they didn,t fool Mrs L. she threatened them with a good 'ovening' if they didnt clear off, these were the'brown' variety, not to be confused with the more common 'pasty' white one,s, they make holes in your lawn and eat your goldfish. The best way to get rid is to threaten to sing Jimmy Shand songs to em..........works every time!
Merry xmas to all forumites, I am going to the pub now, wobbly but happy.

It gets its legs short on one side and long the other depending on which way the mother haggis was facing when it was born.. lol
