Converting downloaded files?

Post by zigsuk »

I've just downloaded a couple of MFX films as I don't want to risk the customs again. They are in mpg format. Is there any way the files could be converted to play on a dvd player? Reading the manual of my dvd player it seems to inciate that CD-R discs will play so long as the files are suitable.
The downloads play fine on my PC, but I'd really prefer to watch them on my DVD.
I don't know much about this kind of stuff and would appreciate any help.

I'm no techie but surely you have to burn them onto a CD-R disk before you can play them.

You'll need to burn them to VCD format if you want to play them on your DVD player.

I've already copied them onto a disc, but it won't play in my DVD player, The message comes up 'no audio data,' and 'MP3 files'. It seems they have to be in MP3 format?

The easiest and quickest way you can do this is to get a copy of NERO 6.

You can convert this MPG into AVI and burn it as a VCD.

Admitidely the quality won't be as good as coverting to DVD which is still possible with NERO.

An OEM version will cost around ?5 plus delivery, and is extremely easy to use. I don't think i can post where to buy a OEM version so if you want to drop me a E-mail i will point in the right direction.

I haven't had any success trying to convert MPEG files to play on a DVD player.

I had an older version of Nero which I didn't use, so I downloaded a demo version of Nero 6. However, it still hasn't worked. It says at the beginning of the instructions DVD video format will only work with VOB IFO and BUP files. You cannot use AVI or MPEG files at this time.
All these acronyms for files are double Dutch to me, but it appears that it isn't possible even with Nero 6 to convert MPEG files so they will play on a DVD player. I can view the movies ok on my computer, but I really want to see them on my dvd player. I burned the files anyway and when I put the disc into my DVD player it just says no audio data.

At this time? Does that mean eventually Nero will allow it? Or does anyone know of another prgarmme that can convert MPEG files to play on a DVD player?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

You can indeed convert them using Nero 6.
I do it regular with Martial Arts samplers.
I download, burn as VCD or SVCD and watch it in my DVD player.
AFAIK, all DVD players will play VCD's.

Perhaps the demo copy you have wont allow full burn or something but it is very possible.

Try using the Nero Express Wizard. It talks you through it all.

New

VideoCD (or SuperVideoCD) (or DVD if you have a DVD burner)

Drag in the .mpg file

It will check it. If already in MPEG1 or MPEG2 it will burn it straight away (VCD or SVCD). If not, it will convert it to the correct format (takes some time). I think files from MFX are MPEG1 and will burn immediately as VCD.

You canot just put the file on a CD. You must burn it as a VCD or SVCD.
