I use a service from Telewest Broadband and since they started to plug Broadband the 56k service has gone from slow to dead slow ..... but the price has gone up !
Is this because more people have broadband and the net is now geared to broadband users ,or are Telewest broadband making the 56k service total crap so people move on to the more expensive broadband ?
I was happy with the old 56k service ,yes it got a bit slow if you wanted to use it around 5 - 8 o'clock at night but other than that it was fine during the day , but now JESUS its slow ...........
Should I move on ? change my service provider ? or sue Telewest ?
56k is anyone else still using it ?

Cheers Magoo ,I get the impression a good search was needed before I asked this question , as for AOL watch out ! I have been told that you can never remove all of it and if you try to all the naked women you look at over the net start to grow dicks !
TESCO net could be the answer !

Tesco net is good Maggs, but get rid of AO Hell, off your machine first, just pop into your local Tesco, load the disk, and use the anytime package, when you install it, it will set your homepage to Tesco,s h/page, just go into internet options and change to your regular homepage back to..google etc, and thats it! really reliable and cheap, I have less chance of broadband now, cos we have moved really out in the sticks, still I like the unpredictablity of 56k ing..........

I'm still on 56k
September 2002 I signed up with Tiscali for broadband (use them in France... very good service there). What a f***ing nightmare!!! Returned 3 modems before I got one that worked, which took nearly six months of letter writting, e-mails etc. In the end I got fed up and returned the whole kit to them with a very long letter explaining why I believed they were in breach of contract and hence cancellation of my standing order... bastards have put ME on a credit black list because I havn't paid them for a service they were unable to provide. Reading the computer press, I understand that I am not the only one to have issues with these bastards, nor am I the only one they've black-listed in this way.
STEER CLEAR OF TISCALI!!!!!

Most surfers use 56k dial-up
The only way to find out whats what is to contact telewest and state your case
I don't think that broadband & dial-up use the same lines so that shouldn't have anything to do with your connection speed
In OZ anyway
More likely your ISP has banded together dial-ups in your surrounding area on the same server slowing it down to free up resources for its increasing broadband base
I'd find out what body regulates the industry
to find out what minimum levels of service if any are law to provide
If you get no joy from your ISP write a letter of complaint to them
I'd try the ping test at in busy & normal times
Just to see what the real upload & download speeds are
cheers
