I wont hear anything bad said about Billy Connolly. He doesn't really laugh at his own jokes because a lot of his material is storytelling and to an extent the laughing helps build to it - whether its a true story or a made up one. Its not like he goes "why did the chicken cross the road "...Its usually laughing at other people and their reactions that he does. Although its quite strange i hate people laughing at their own jokes I love billy connolly but I still dunno how people like jack dee, steve coogan and eddie izzard dont laugh at their own jokes!
What REALLY pisses me off are the ones on game shows like gary linekar and now david seaman who say some dodgy-arsed pun and then lookout the audience who laugh and then they join in...like awaiting approval or something really fake. Shit jokes too

Spot on ID about two-bob retired sportsmen who throw a gag in. The worst offender is Mark Lawrenson on Football Focus, he likes to 'throw' one in every now and then, and its VERY painful to watch.
I disagree about The Big Yin though. For someone who tells the SAME repatoir night after night, you THINK the story he is telling MIGHT become a bit stale to him after the 10th time.
Connolly, USED to be funny in the 70's.....................but then again, so was Jasper Carrott.

At his best, Connolly is sublime, and his genius is in telling stories rather than jokes. But the constant interrupting of his own shtick with the tears-rolling-down-the-cheeks laughter doesn't do him any favours.
His brown-nosing to the establishment has gained him a few detractors, but how can't you like someone who introduced the term "Partick roulette" to the language?

I fully appreciate what you are saying Ace. I guess I just don't find BC laughing as annoying - it bothers me with others just not on him. Probably because he is sharing stories rather than just spouting out his material but even so just look at the man....silly trousers and a purple beard. Also he doesnt laugh EVERY joke in fact when hes telling jokes he usually just stays neutral but when telling stories about something someones done iI know I for one can hear them over and over and laugh - so why shouldnt he.
He has been a big influence in modern comedy and I dont disagree he was superb in the 1970s but I reckon he's still got it....shame Dave Allens hidden himself away in Oz though - he was superb too.
