e-mails not deleting - help

Can any technophobes out there help me. I cant seem to delete my e mails, which is a pain in the a**e. In a months time I'll likely have over 1000 messages clogging up me inbox, any ideas as to why this is happening and any possible remedies. Thanks

If using O/Express, go to options, then maintainance, then use clean up now option...........
