Oh no, steve56 has discovered "quotes".
They can be useful but does anyone know why they are so overused on newsgroups where sometimes each successive poster seems to quote the entire preceding thread in replying.

PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?
Re: Quotes

Re: Quotes
It still is:
In Swahili it means 'go stick your elbow up her bum-hole', and in Serbo-Croat it roughly translates as 'Help ! My pubic hair is on fire- please call a window-dresser immediately'.

Re: Quotes
Do you mean "Pobol y cwm" or the content of the series?

Re: Quotes
i could never see the point in using quotes.
the whole point surely is that someone starts a topic/thread and then others contribute their thoughts, not just re-post everyone else's thoughts.
its not as if each post disappears after 5 mins.

Re: Quotes
in most forums where 'flat view' is the only available option, quotes are a necessary evil. otherwise, keeping track of the correct sequence of responses would be inordinately time consuming.
the advantage of the 'thread' option as utilised on this forum, is that a post is directly attached to the the message being responded to, which makes for a more intuitive and legible interface - in our opinion, anyways.
