It's called 'Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind' and also stars Kate Winslet.
STORY
An introverted man finds his ex girlfriend has had any memories she had of him erased by a medical procedure so he decides to do the same for himself only to find himself regretting it as he undergoes the process.
PROS
- a really intriguing script
- a great performance from Jim Carrey
- some impressive effects that refreshingly are not done via CGI
CONS
- a little too clever for its own good
VERDICT
This is one of Jim Carreys occasional forays into serious acting and its a performance like no other that he's done - really low key, no wackiness or cheesy grins in sight. It's by the same writer as Adaptation, Human Nature and Being John Malkovich (although not as accesible as the latter) and is more similar in tone to Adaptation. But it leaps all over the place as Carrey relives his memories that are being erased and it's is arguably quite profound on the issues of human behaviour and conditioning. But because of this it is probably more of a film to appeal to critics than a mainstream audience and for this reason will be a flop along the lines of Jim Carrey's little seen, 'The Majestic'. Go if you want an intelligent, thoughtful film but not if you want some light fluffy mindless nonsense like Bruce Almighty.
Out late April (i think)
new Jim Carrey film
Re: new Jim Carrey film
Im afraid Jim to me is like Robin Williams, you either love or hate him, regardless of whether his films are good or bad.
Saying that, I DID think One Hour Photo (Williams) was excellent, as was The Mask(Carrey), so you never know, I 'might' end up seeing it

Carrey was great in The Truman Show. If this one is anywhere near as good as Being John Malkovich or Adaptation, it'll be worth seeing.

Man on The Moon detailing the tragic Andy Kauffman was also very good, missed that one in my last post

Re: new Jim Carrey film
The Majestic was a letdown. Carrey was fine, but I expected much better from the director of The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile than a second-rate, Oscar-seeking Frank Capra wannabe.
