Treatment of Elderly

I do sometimes think that the elderly sometime receive consideration which their behaviour does not justify. In a recent trial in Plymouth, an 82 year old woman was sentenced to 2 years in prison for killing her husbad in a brutal manner, for no better reason than she was tired of looking after him. If this isn't bad enough, there were other aggravating circumstances. She staged a sophisticated burglary and gave the police a detail description of two men who had allegedly killed her husband. Hundreds of thousands of pounds were spent on the investigation of the non existent burglary. I really do not know what the trial judge Mrs Justice Hallett was thinking about only giving her two years. Obviously the police investigated this matter properly. If they had not, there could have been an awful miscarriage of justice here. Just as well they did not rely on the old Claude Raines maxim, 'Round up the usual suspects.'

Well, at least it showed that not all the elderly have lost their marbles.

The worrying aspect is that she gave detailed descriptions of two actual people who, had they not had solid alibis, would have faced trial themselves. Most people in such circumstances give vague descriptions of the alleged killers, but she seemed to be holding a grudge against those two guys.

my 2 neighbours are in their 70s but they scare the hell outa me hes got a habit of banging on my door when the musics on threataning me and waving his fists around,she keeps saying im staring at her thru her kitchen window.

They should think themselves lucky considering all the dangerous or abusive types they could have living next door to them. Best just keep your distance, Steve.

I wasn't aware that she had described two actual people. That makes it even worse. I understand that an appeal is now being considered against the excessive leniency of the sentence.
