"I thought the rest of you believed the sun rose and set on what the UN decided that was best for all of us...well...don't you?"

No - we don't see international politics in such laughably simplistic terms.

"I guess since ousting Saddam would mean siding with the US, you all were cool with ignoring it, right?"

Yeah - you either backed Saddam 100% or you backed the US 100%. Wrong again, really very badly wrong.

"The UN sat idly by while Saddam was pissing on their collective heads."

Thats right - the UN sanctions had no affect on Saddam, he was free to develop WMDs and build a huge state-of-the-art 21st century military force. Oh no, when you think about it, thats a load of bollox.

"Maybe you all ought to run Saddam as the next candidate for PM...seeing that you all were so saddened to see him outsted from power and think he is not such a bad guy."

Guess again o simple one. Regarding Dubya's crusade as a dangerous folly that is only helping Al-Q's cause does not mean that we regard Saddam as a Gandhi figure.

"the world is better off without him in power"

Rubbish - Saddam was a tinpot dictator, hamstrung by sanctions with a shattered military who was a threat to his own people and no-one else. He was, though, dead against the fundalmentalism of Al-Q et al.

You really do seem to be suggesting suggesting that the threat of international terrorism has been lessened by this stupid war - you really have no idea.

"The rest of the world needs to find their collective backbone."

Yeah - international politics is just as easy as a John Wayne movie - act tough & good will out.

"You all forgot what it was like to see a dictator like this allowed to do as he pleases with little or no recourse...my...how you all easily forget."

What?? - you're trying to say that Saddam was the same threat as Hitler?? That really is too daft for words. Or are you saying that all petty dictators should be opposed?...my...I think that you'd better write to Georgie and tell him to get a brand new foreign policy then.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Interesting to note that in Bob Woodward's new book (Plan of Attack) it seems the "Bush Administration" were planning the invasion of Iraq before Bush was even elected... so what WAS the reason for the war on Iraq?

Can't have been because of 9/11 and the "war on terrorism" as 9/11 hadn't yet happened.

Obviously not WMD, because there are any and the "intelligence" information used as the reason for the war was either wildly out of date or just plain made up by the NSA, CIA etc.

And from what is going on now in Iraq, the mass murders of his own people by Saddam looks like a quite picnic compared to what the "freeing of the Iraqi people" is about to unleash on the country!

And how many UN resolutions has Israel ignored, yet we don't see the might of the US armed forces storming the gates of Tel Aviv!

Isn't that what they're trying to do now ? If only to get the figleaf of legitimacy to the ill-judged military action in Iraq and to prevent the continuing spiral of civil unrest and murder appearing to be another US failure. We all know the UN is pretty hopeless. But even that is preferable now to yet more heavy-handed US blundering in Iraq. After all, Saddam has actually gone now so why not start handing the place back to the Iraqis ?

I think you're right ; the US election and it's sheep-like electorate need to be given some positive stories.

Though I've watched some of the Fox 'News' Channel on tv in the last couple of days as I'm slightly incapacitated at the moment and I have to say that it is an obscenity.
