P123: very good- and the (far more menacing and realistic) violence was strictly that necessary for plotting purposes.

You've hit the nail on the head, WB. I've no probelm with violence in cinema as a rule - DW Griffith set the ball rolling and it hasn't stopped yet, but it was the way the whole 'hip and trendy' ethic got introduced to cinema via QT's popularity within the media in the early 90's that set my teeth on edge. Deeming something fashionable throws all objective critique out of the window - hugely detrimental to a medium such as cinema and conveniently blinding all those wretched Taranteenees to his blatant cut 'n' paste approach - and I suppose with Kill Bill we'll be waiting in vain for a return of the relative maturity he began to show in Jackie Brown.
