I estimate that about 30% of my mail never arrives (and by that I mean is stolen rather than 'lost', as it is usually the stuff of value), and of that which does, 50% takes more than five days, irrespective of postage class.
So, like you, anything important goes Recorded/Special.

ITs happened to me before, and mentioned on here, but twice this week, I've found on the floor at work one of those "we tried to deliver a parcel, but no-one was in" cards.

Of course, the idle bastard just couldn't be bothered carrying the package, so decided to try to pull a stunt. Thing is though, if there's no-one in, you can't actually reach the letter box. But will they sack the loser? I doubt it.

The trick is to leave the packet in the office, having already filled out the card at their leisure.
That leaves little incentive to get an answer at your door, does it?

Well, today I received a (recorded) letter that was posted in March.

For a while I lived in Edinburgh, and in Northumberland Street. Trouble was: that was close to Northumberland Place, not to mention to Northumberland Street North West Lane, etc., and I regularly got mail destined to those places, never mind having my name on the door.

Parcel force is another problematic area, especially close to Xmas where they apparently employ some dimwits. Three times I have tried to use the feature "deliver to your local post office" to get a parcel redelivered (because the depot is lightyears away, and my local post office is around the corner, and it's cheaper than to take a day off work). On the first occasion the driver did not read the instruction on the parcel and delivered it to my home (I was lucky to be in, at least it saved me the 50p fee), the second time it was indeed delivered to my local post office, on the third occasion it was just left in the depot and I had to ring them up again.

I also had it happened several times that I tried to collect a parcel from a depot and they could not find it. On one occasion I could point out to them (from the counter) where the bloody thing was, on one occasion the parcel was lost, on another it was returned to sender.

did u c the documentary last week on C4 last week ??.

It showed a service where the PO r quite happy to pay a lot of money to agency sharks who then send the lowest of the low to the PO and because the pay is so low all their interested in is ripping of mine (and yours) credit cards.

Also the agency postman they have r so lowly paid and badly trained that they don`t give a toss

Except the first time he did this to me, I was standing outside the door, so he actually gave me a bundle of letters hand-to-hand.

Did this matter when I complained? Will they care If I complain again? I don't know, but i'm going to, simply because every reply from the complaints office encloses a book of stamps.

I had a switch card/debit card stolen in the post on the way to me from the
bank about 18 months ago.

They stole about 2,500 pounds (I had just been paid) in about a week.

The people went to a different city each day and bought anything they could.

My guess it was an organized gang, who probably had loads of card to
use in each city.

The C4 program about Royal Mail last week made them look awful. I also
thought it gave the best examples for restricting immigration I had ever
seen, with many of the foreign agency staff just getting jobs there so they
could see what they could steal.

My simple rule is ONLY use second class post : - 1). It's cheaper. 2). If you post something first class and it doesn't arrive next day as promised , what you gonna do ask for your money back ? Yeah right !
