Many christian churches, when viewed from above, are in the
shape of a cross, to symbolise the cross Jesus was hung on.

If he had been killed some other way, beheaded for example,
what would they have done about the shape of churches then ?.

Also, with a crucifix, what would people have had on the chain
round their neck if he had not died on the cross ?

The Romans quite often used an 'X'-shaped cross for executions, IIRC.
So the Xians might well have been wrong in the first place.
And probably every symbol would have been fish-shaped, since that was the earlier motif.
Would have been fun watching Wren or Hawksmoor coping with THAT..........
