Has BBC news lost the plot?

Post by DavidS »

I tend to watch news broadcasts on Ch 4 now, or listen to them on Radio 4. BBC tv news seems to be in a trivialised fantasy world. Today when the news of the murder by beheading of the American was still fresh, the BBC's main story was Tony Blair's reaction to it. Did anyone think he would say anything other than the act was appalling? He was of course, right, but was that a bigger story than the actual murder?

If you think the BBC news is bad you should try living out here in America and sample the delights of 'fair and balanced' (their words) Fox News.

It's basically a 24-7 political broadcast in support of the Republicans.

BBC now stands for Blairs Broadcastng Corporation.

They're just the labour mouthpiece, especially the Today programme on R4, which had become the Labour briefing programme since the "whitewash"

That's strange: they usually lead off with a story about puppies, or something equally anodyne.
News? Stick to R4, NN or the broadsheets (with one exception.....).

All true, and it's become worryingly didactic in the worst sense of late. The few items it actually deals with are not so much told to us as 'explained' - often via a flashy, time-wasting graphics board of the kind Chris Morris satirizesd a good ten years ago, and the school head/ma'am tones of voices now adopted by its presenters completes the depressing picture.

I am a Brit living in Chicago. Moved here 2 months ago to marry the American missus. (I used to post on BGAFD as KnaveEditor.)

I used to watch Fox news on Sky when I was in England - I actually long for those world weather forecasts bits they have instead of the adverts.

Ha! I think Mr Spenser would be quite amused if you thought I was him (I've got more hair for a start).

Mr Spenser is still in the UK working for Paul Raymond as editor of Mayfair and Mens World.

I shall point out this link to him, perhaps he'll join in.

Never too sure what early porn mags are worth, guess it all depends on how badly someone wants to complete their collection or get all the mags featuring their favourite model.

Back at Galaxy we had every issue of Fiesta and Knave ever printed, going right back to the 1967 in Fiesta's case and 1969 for Knave. Fascinating stuff to see how porn mags used to be
