'A wetter and cloudier world would see more plants and more photosynthesis to counter greenhouse gases and also mean less evaporation as less solar radiation reaches the Earth.'

not quite the case as more clouds would mean less heat escaping to atmosphere resulting in trapped heat adding to the problem. Also less solar radiation reaching the earth would have a negative effect on photosynthesis.

"Properly managed, they could buy time for the world's people to make the major reductions in greenhouse emissions from power generation, industry and transport that will be required to reduce the damage from climate change."

jj is totally correct in that the main point of this work is simply stating that this effect, if true, would simply buy us time

I haven't read the research paper but some of the conclusions they have deduced seem a bit spurious

we are Leeds.... , and we can still beat the mighty Chester

Rant, rant, rant.
You havn't had the decency to admit you "accidentally" left out the info. on who sponsors that Australian group.
I try to follow the environmental principles you so kindly provided. I don't own a vehicle, I recycle as much as I can, I only ever have one light on at night, I use my washing machine on cold water most of the time.
I am renting a house at present so I'm not able to practise some of the other admirable habits.

"Do you walk or ride a bicycle often, instead of driving a car or taking mass transit that also burns fuels?"

"My guess is probably no to 99% of all of you."

What on earth are you talking about?

What sort of ridiculous, lard-arsed, unhealthy society would produce a populace from which just 1% would often walk or cycle rather than get in their car?

Imagine the lumbering size and elasticated waistbands of a society that insisted on driving anywhere that involved more than a 5-minute walk. They'd be the laughing stock of the rest of the planet.

"How can you sit there and curse us for running an air conditioner all day, while you're doing the same damn things?"

Hands up who runs air-conditioning all day??

"Do you have rainwater reseviors set up to catch rainwater to water your lawns?"

Can I take it that you've not visited our fair country? Storing rainwater is not top of our list of neccesities. I can assure that far more than 1% of our population never bother to water their lawns. The lawn gets wet when it rains - thats it for most of us.

"Do you grow your own fruit and vegtables?"

Yes thank you - we are a nation of gardeners and demand for allotments is outstripping supply.

I think we can safely say that your claim that 99% of people are exactly like you is complete bunkum - and this does tend to suggest that the rest of your "argument" is equally flimsy.

Do you expect us to believe that it was purely "accidental" that the only section of the article that didn't get copied is the one which reveals the sponsorship of the scientists group.
I never have any problem providing a link and the only times when I have posted a text is when I've scanned an article.
Yet again, I say look in the mirror if you seriously want to know why many of us do not think that the USA is heaven on earth.

Quite frankly I don't give a toss because I think how long you live is all down to your GENES that your born with and all this advice that the experts give are no more than small tweaks

My father age 63(6ft 2 18 stone) has been over weight for most of his life(15-18 stone) smokes like a train, drinks like a fish, hasn't done any exercise for 20 years but eats a balanced diet full of meat, pasta, bread, fruit, vegetables and on top of that stuffs himself silly with fatty deserts, cakes & chocolates.

According to the experts he should have died a long time ago

It seems to me the one factor that they never use in these equations that say that being obese is bad never seem to take in the effect of the human mind

The power of the mind is easy to show when you see the improvement in patients that are in drugs trials but only taking the placebo medication
