Brit Art Fire

Post by JP »

Seems a fire has destroyed a large collection of modern Brit Art, call me a commoner but does any of us give a f*ck. Seems to be that Brit Artists really are taking people like Charles Saatchi for a ride and producing literally any old rubbish and charging fortunes.

SSSSHHHHHH SHUT UP!
I've worked long and hard at collecting shit and selling it to the highbrow wankers and there you go giving the game away.
My latest collection, is a satchel full of shit; a rucksack full of cowpat; a briefcase full of bullshit; a gymbag full of manure and a colostomy bag full of...colostomy...I call it "Visions"...
Sorry, beg my pardon, did I say Visions. I meant Bag O'Shite.

'Seems to be that Brit Artists really are taking people like Charles Saatchi for a ride and producing literally any old rubbish and charging fortunes.'

Do your homework, eh.

Through his patronage and exhibitions Charles Saatchi was instrumental in creating the whole Brit Art Scene in mid 90's - a movement that put British art on the map in a manner not seen for decades, and the money involved is a necessity for professional practice and reflective of the impact it has had worldwide (and even here the figures are dwarfed by how much a Jasper Johns can go for these days). One loss - a Saatchi commission for ?500,000 - being the Chapman Bros' extraordinary Hell.

I know it's easy to flick through the papers, read the hype and slag it all off, but if you're prepared to actually go and see it with your own eyes (as you often should before passing comment - for presence counts for much) then you might see what made it such an event in the first place. The fact that many involved have become household names also speaks volumes.

And who would you rather have as representative of British art - Emin and Hirst or Beryl Cook and Jack Vettriano?

I did go! I was dragged along by a girlfriend.
I still thought it stunk of old bollocks

Many things become household names; doesn't mean that they are held in any esteem though does it.
Jade Goody. Wonderful household name; for a thick as pigshit retard.
Domestos; cleans the shit nothing else will touch.
It's highly pretentious to assume that as something has achieved household name status, that it is worthy.
Tracey Emin is a household name for having wonky tits and being a messy old cow.
Her recent work of art, her bedroom, was simply stunning? Give me a break. It was pretentious bollocks. But I guess us lesser mortals will never fully understand the statement behind it as we are pedants as well as peasants.

How about none.

And what is wrong with Jack Vettriano, a fine Scottish Artist who at least produces work worth looking at.

I find such pretencious behaviour that you have shown to be the norm for people who think they know better than the average Joe Bloggs on the street.

Having studied Music at the Royal Northern College of Music I was for ever faced with prats who continually looked down their nose at me because I came from a State Educated school, they from Private, didn't matter that I passed my Degree with Honours whilst the flunked theirs. So before you again assume that one is not worthy to comment on such subjects get your facts right.

Dadoist - you mean it only burned up to about five feet off the floor? :)

Sorry, couldn't resist. I think you meant Dadaist.

On the question of experimental art, or experimental anything - some experiments succeed and many experiments fail. Experiments are useless if no one is allowed to express the opinion that they have failed.
