Credit where credit is due

I thought they'd get thumped but I forgot to factor in the lack of Portuguese finishing and the diabolical Portuguese Goalkeeping

What was doing when the Greek corner was taken?

Looked to be playing hide & seek

Once again in a big game negative Defence beats positive Attack

Denmark v Germany 92 all over again

cheers

i think the lesson to be learned is that they didn't have better players than us but they did have a better team.

Whats the bet that most of the Greek squad play week in week out with each other in Greece which could only lead to better cohesion

Its been well proven that a decent preparation gets results

Most teams don't get it and rely on a few individuals to get results

If by 'better players' one means better-disciplined, not prone to alarming lapses in concentration or unwonted overconfidence, and the ability to defend a lead effectively, regardless of 'talent', the result is usually a better team.

Yes. A case of England being less than the sum of its parts and Greece more then.

Ironically, a number of members of the Greek squad are/were players who couldn't cut it in the Premiership.

I called England unrealistic because they had "won" the tournament before a ball was kicked---again. If Greece hadn't have scored, the scenario would have been:

a) We lost to the eventual winners; or
b) If that ref hadn't cheated us, we'd have won the whole thing.

Someone has to muzzle the newspapers and broadcasting media. You'll find that most Scots, and Welsh and Irish I suspect, don't object to the English team as such, but all the crowing that goes on on their behalf. A few of the England players undoubtedly lit up the tournament with their performances---and I'm not talking just Rooney.

I'd suggest shooting Tyldsley, Motty and co, but they'd just be replaced by others of their ilk. The commentators need to be told that they don't need to mention Beckham or Rooney or England every few seconds during a game between Greece and the Czech Republic. Football fans will watch the game anyway.

Oh, and the same is true of tennis (this Henman worship just puts undue pressure on the man) and motor racing (could Nosenthal get any further up Jenson Button's arse?).

They can be talking quite sensibly about the Schumachers, Montoya and so on, but then Jim will get a gleam in his eye and you can almost hear his trousers tightening as he says, "Jenson Button."
