A chap at work is downloading and viewing porn on his company PC (obviously against company rules and policy). I guess he thinks nobody knows.
I have five options:
1) Ignore it,he's gonna get caught anyway - this stuff is monitored. (For all I know, maybe he wants to get the sack!)
2) Have a friendly word
3) Have an unfriendly word - blackmail option
4) Report him anyway
5) Maybe he reads this and he'll make his own decision
I'm just too far away from his screen to see the detail, if it's kiddy stuff - I'd report straight away!
So, what would you people do - any other options?
A question of ethics
Re: A question of ethics
forget it,no one likes a grass.
Re: A question of ethics
Have a friendly word and tell him you will ALL be fucked if one person is doing it.
Someone I know got fucked for surfing the net for discount holidays, and everyone in the team got a warning that next time, they'd all be out.

Leave well alone (unless it's part of your job)- he's an adult, and should be able to take the consequences of his own actions.

Re: A question of ethics
Excuse me for my ignorance but if your too far away to see it how do you know its porn? Can't imagine he's got the sound up full blast or going through kleenex like he's just won the lottery
Personally I'd let it ride unless you have concrete proof in which case a quiet word(not blackmail) would be in order
As for telling your superiors-NEVER
Once you are labelled as a Whistle Blower/Snitch your peers will isolate you and management will see you as a non team player.Harsh but true
Its a lose/lose which ever way you look at it
Management might threaten your jobs if he's exposed but to try and enforce
mass dismissals wouldn't be legally enforceable
Unfair dismissals are something they like to avoid-very costly
cheers

Re: A question of ethics
First thing is to protect yourself, That means if away from your desk lock your PC, so no one can use it to access the net tolook at Porn ,a lot of the time people in an office try to use there colleagues PC for that to avaoid blame.
Also your in a no win stuation, if you grass him you are isolated and if you don't and a problem comes along you , your colleagues and the guy are all in the shit.
I would mention it to another colleague at the same level as yourself and perhaps a collective word would do the trick.

If you know about it then that means he knows you know about it because if his screen is in view to people other than himself then he would know that...the big question for me is...are your computers monitored? If they are then he will get caught sooner or later and you can plead ignorance. If they arent monitored, I'd go with no2) have a friendly word
hope thats of help
