I only saw it when first broadcast. They had a few celebs of the time watch it and give their verdict. Anna Ford liked it, but didn't know what a "toly" was. Twenty-five years on, and the main channels won't use Scottish dialect because people won't understand it.
About time the Beeb released Tutti Frutti, with Big Robbie, Emma T, Richard Wilson et al. Class black comedy-drama.

Well done. Weirdly enough, my mum bought Boyle's old flat years back, and she had no end of ne'er do wells pitching up at all hours, asking if Jimmy was in!
If you like that as a film, then try and track down "Just A Boys' Game" which I think was a Play For Today type show in the 70s set in Glasgow. Absolutely epic, and a good training film for scholars of the straight razor. Or fans of bad hair and flares!

Don't remember that one myself, but probably watched it back then.
Just looked at IMDB, and here's what one punter said:
Just a Boy's Game is a masterpiece, a low-key story of life in a depressed Greenock, when the only ambition for the hard-cases is to be legendary hard-cases. Miller's performance is first-class, and Mackenzie's direction faultless.
This is quite possibly the finest Scottish film ever made with the exception of Just Another Saturday.
Faultless.

Talking of Scottish drama, I remember watching an excellent show on BBC2 at least 10 years ago.
Lots of scenes filmed in the dockyards and snooker halls.
Main character was called Dancer, a decent well-meaning bloke who ended up in scrapes through being pissed most of the time.
Plenty of knife action and ended up with 'Dancer' being killed after being chased along the waterfront and having his head chopped off by a metal chain that was mooring one of the ships.
Anyone know what it was called?

That's Just A Boy's Game, and no mistake. Ken Hutchison played Dancer. Crackingly depressing tale of Greenock knife fights.
