Combo Technology is still in its infancy as far as I can see

As I have 2 TVs I splurged out and bought Sharps DV-NC70X a year ago and haven't had a problem for viewing & taping unlike my stand alone VCR which broke down 6 times in 18 months

Where the combo falls down is in the DVD where its limited compatibilty is exposed by only playing Region 4 DVDs,CD-R,CD-RW & VCDs...no hacks available that I'm aware of.Even these formats from OVERSEAS are rejected unless they are coded region free

So do your homework before buying one

I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't have the back-up set-up of Dvd & VCR which play next to anything from anywhere

cheers

As you are renting Stevie, get a demo from the installer. Don't let him fob you off and flannel you, remind him YOU are the customer

The West London of my youth is now on dvd

I've met the man on the street............and he's a cunt

Steve, I spent years renting kit with my old flatmate, and we worked out how much it cost us. D'oh!

I've got an LG combined unit which cost 140 quid last year. Works very well, and I took advice from my mate who edits a techy mag. His comment was that for that kind of money, if I got three years out of it, I was still winning.

Playback quality is excellent on both VHS and DVD, and it takes up half the space.

I know some people with combo units, and its seems to be a cheap & easy option.

Whenever I buy this type of kit I check out Richer Sounds as a bench mark for price. I also check out http://www.kelkoo.co.uk

They are currently selling three multi-region DVD / Video combos at sub ?100 price (cheapest is ?80)! 3 year extended warranty is only ?30
