Printer Colour Problem...

Post by Holden MacGroyn »

OK here's one.
I've recently started using my printer to print out alternate DVD covers.
I am using glossy paper and good stuff at that and a Lexmark Z35 inkjet printer.
Everything works fine except for the fat that the final printout colour isn't the same as the colour of the original image on screen.
It's a little darker than it should be and in some cases noticable as hell.

Anyone got any ideas?
I'm printing out the alternate covers to the Indy Jones trilogy and I'd like it to look as good as possible.

Most helpful person can have Indy.

Cheers in advance dudes.

This is always the case especially with scanned images - you cant realistically expect to get professional copy shop type results with home user equipment otherwise there would be no market for products at thousands and even tens and hundreds of thousands of pounds used in the repro business.

Exact colour recreation is a science in itself which takes years for a printer to learn which you just will never be able to achieve on "desktop" products - a suggestion if something is looks ok on the screen but is coming out too dark in print is to mess around with things like levels, colour balance, brightness and contrast etc. Basically make it look a little too light on your screen and the resulting print should therefore be lighter than before and closer to what you want to achieve

The easiest way to achieve this is when you go to print anything make sure and select black and white / mono in the printer settings / preferences and it will only use the black cartridge - not sure if you can actually switch the colour and / or black cartridge off though but I could be wrong. Out of interest what printer is it you use?
