On the other printer not related to yours?

From reading a lot of forums to do with scanning it would seem the trick in getting good quality images is more to do with what paper you use

As I'm no expert this forum might be useful

One small point...its say its instructions for a MAC

Not sure wether the instructions would translate that well to Microsoft/Windows?

Still some info and better than none and if worse comes to worse you could always go and buy the MAC...said to be superior in everything but surfing the net

I'm using an Epson Stylus Color 670. I'm very pleased with it but for one major niggle. I can't find any way to make Black the default setting. I've followed your suggestion Deuce and there's a puzzling option called "Color Mamagment" but I can't find out what that means.

I've got my color management set to Automatic as opposed to manual
as i haven't a clue what

I'd assume its a way of changing how the cartridge uses the Colored ink....a specialised art no doubt

You'd need to know specific code numbers(my default one being CNB87000) relating to different types of paper or for .exe drives I'm betting

You really need to have your printer (and monitor) profiled if you're serious about printing.

The guy who did my set-up told me that all the consumer printers are set up to squirt out more in than is needed, just so you buy more cartridges.

It cost me about ?100 to get the profiling done, but I must have wasted twice that on paper and ink just doing test prints to try and get the thing looking anything like.

Now I get perfect first time prints, and what you see on the screen is what comes out on the paper.

You may be able to get just a printer profile done, by post and save a few quid, but if you're serious about printing, a visit from the bloke is the only solution.

Agreed. I've always found paper quality more important to a good printout than the printer due to how it reacts to the ink. The best I've found for all images and artwork is high gloss photography paper - the ink adheres to the surface, as opposed to being absorbed by it, which can happen with cheaper, less treated papers, and may lead to muddiness.

I've got EE097_1 with a choice in a folder called "Color". But I've got no idea what the other choices do.
Perhaps we should rtfm.....lol

Thanks a lot to everyone who pitched in on this thread.
Much appreciated.

I finally resorted to opening my Covers in Photoshop and altering the brightness level. I set the pitch 20 points above the original and printed.
Came out perfectly.
Sometimes it's the smallest & simplest options.

Thanx again and I've learnt more about the printer in one night than the last year.
