You great big soft brisket basher!, if one was to purchase a reasonably good bike just for pottering around the lanes etc, nothing too violent, what would you recommened (seriously) under ?200 maybe s/hand, and what about gears etc..... also would you recommened a helmet..lol!, as I dont fancy scraping my own, any advice would be really helpful! no! really!
Your Chum, and mentor.

Re: Attention Holden, you Bandit!!
Well depends what kind of ride you want.
Suspension bikes take the bumpy pain out of your arse if you are on an uneven surface.
Suspensions are the ones where the back seat looks like it's just hovering.
You could go for a normal hardtail. That's the one you're more used to seeing.
?200 second hand should get you something pretty good.
I'd have to recommend the Saracen range of bikes.
It's not all about throwing yourself off of a mountain.
They do some very good road bikes.
This be the link
It'll take you straight to the product line.
Have a look around at the various options. See what you take a fancy to and then call a local bike shop and see if they do second hand.
You might even be tempted for a brand new one at 200.
Regarding a helmet, get a good one and none of that Argos bollocks. It's the most vital piece of kit you'll need so don't take the cheap option bro.
You can also check this link for the common Raleigh bike.
They are both good makes and I'd hate for you to waste your cash on a lady boy BMX. You're far too old to be doing bunny hops.
Don't worry about the prices on the page for new bikes. Second hand bikes and last years season bikes usually go for cheaper even second hand.

Cheers ma man, I will let you know what transpires, thing is with travelling and work commitements, I always give stuff away, I had a couple of really good bikes over the last 6 years, but have not got a clue what they were, as they were bought for me, but I,m taking some time out and we have bought (well buying a motor home) and doing the whole in -Continent thing, I am trying to organize it me self without people interfering so a couple of bikes would be good to take, as well as for use nearer home, I will check those links, I kinda like the no rear fork thingie, which I have seen though never tried.
Thank you from the heart of my bottom..

Motor home?....as in posh word for caravan....as in Pikey?
Well then any old tin pot rusty bike will do.
Tell you what, be a chav and nick 'em.
Actually if you're doing the long haul with it, go for suspension bikes all the way.
I wouldn't go back to hard tail at all even though I own hard tail & suspension.
This is my bike, only mine is in red.

Mmmmm, looks like a sexy mo-fo, but wait! whats happening with that saddle????, it looks like a boy band benders delight!, I dont think I could handle that under me chuff for long! may have to replace it with an airline seat..also I suspect Magoo and Arnie S would call that a girlieman bike cos of it,s lack of a crossie, still it looks like a suitable piece of cycling equipment to me, I,m loving the shape (it,s all about the shape) what would one pay for a machine such as that my good fellow?
Yours ever.

Lack of crossie?
That's to protect bollocks in case of mountain drop-off.
Anyway, my bike, would cost anything from ?500 to ?700.
I got it for a bargain at ?500 brand new so it's more than likely that the next model down would be cheaper still second hand.
The Havoc is a XC (cross country...as opposed to CC bike...gay) bike and does a bit of everything. Road, mountain, downhill & dirt. Good specs all around with gears and brakes etc but you might not want something as extreme.

Is this post available in an English translation at all?
I ask, merely for information.
I wouldn't read it anyway: it's obviously far too rude for a God-Fearing citizen like wot I am, with me Aga and me motorhome and me middle-class life in the Upper Middlelands, etc, etc and a slightly wayward bowel problem but it's OK now I've had the surgery except for this burning sensation whenever I see Kirsty Young picking her nose............
