Mike Oldfield/Football question

Post by Rude Boy »

One of my chav mates swears blind that Portsmouth FC used to run out onto the pitch at their home games to the musical piece "Portsmouth" by Mike Oldfield. No disrespect to either Portsmouth FC or Mike Oldfield but this music is either the old "Blue Peter" theme tune or very close to it, hardly the stuff to inspire the team to victory at all costs.

I can't imagine this being the truth, can any of the football fans verify if this oddball tale is either the truth or me mate winding me up?

Oldfield also did a version of the Blue Peter theme. Portsmouth is different---honest!

Oh, and thanks for your recommendations. I can't get Tinseltown In The Rain out of my head.

No problem, it's always good to share a musical treasure! I bought the new "Blue Nile" album among a few others in a frantic bout of cd purchasing, I've not really given it a proper listen yet though. I really rate the "Hats" album, their second, too.

You may well have the opening theme from "Tubular Bells" lodged in your head now!

It's been lodged in my head for 30 years.

The worst that can happen is that I become a one-thread poster:

"Anyone seen Sammy-Jayne?"

Besides, it's Tubular Bells, not The Birdie Song.

Had it already, mate. Fish and chips. And yourself?

By the way, just because I have Tubular Bells in my head doesn't mean I never lsiten to anything else. The very worst thing about that album, the music and Mike Oldfield is that it made Richard Branson's fortune.

Oh, and I'm surprised to hear about Magoo---he seemed almost sober in his posts this morning. Maybe Holden's Jimmy Somerville impression put his over the edge.
