Re: On the buses
The first series had Stan and the teethy clippy pulling the birds under the nasty gaze of the Hitler-like depot manager Blakey.
Same as the next 4 or so series and film spin-offs.
The ugly sister Olive is actually Grant and Phils aunt in Eastenders

Re: On the buses
That was probably part of the 'joke'.
70s TV was still remarkably old-fashioned (Robin's Nest, for example, when people their age were fucking like there was no tomorrow), and the idea of younger guys actually seeking a non-marital shag was probably a bit 'risky' for TV execs.

robins nest was the most boring tv comedy i watched and a thing with irene handl in.
Re: On the buses
Funniest story I ever heard about the series was that Thames who produced it had new studios built. Someone forgot to design the outside doors to allow for a double-decker bus to be driven in.

Re: On the buses
Anorak's note: most of the DDs were Bristol LD5/6-series Lodekkas, specially built to pass under low bridges.
Which suggests that the location crew were either pressed for time, or hadn't done their homework.
