Speaking as someone who went to all 10 Adelaide Grand Prixs I don't miss it a bit and have never even thought about travelling over to Melbournes.

Lets face it Grand Prixs are shit viewing for spectators unless you happen to be in a box which can see the whole of the track.

When its all said and done the best place to view it is on a Big Screen TV

All the marketing baloney about the City coming alive for the 4 days was just a polite way of saying "everyones too pissed to let little things annoy them"

Formula 1 used to interesting(rivalries between drivers) now its just a very expensive waste of time Now

There are a couple of points here that need attention; 1). The sport of motor sport hasn't helped itself by letting one person, i.e. Bernie Ecclestone, have complete control over the F1 side of the sport. Can you imagine football or tennis being controlled by just one person? It would never happen. They should have sorted this out years ago and had a proper committee or something that couldn't hold circuits to ransom. 2). Silverstone haven't helped themselves by charging an absolute fortune and providing crap facilitie and organisation. I went to an F1 practice day two years ago when it was a ?10 to get into the circuit. Good value you might think but not when half of the so-called staff were Albanian or something and turning a blind eye to people just queue jumping and not paying. Once in, no catering, crap toilets (literally) and a car park that was a joke. Needless to say, I didn't fork out my ?200 for raceday.

agreed on all points Scott - the teams need to want change tho and if they do then they should do something like has happened in darts (and snooker??) and set up their own rival championship. The sport is much too expensive even for most of the top teams and for one man to be makng millions (if not billions) from it and have a complete monopoly on what goes on and what does and doesnt happen is ludicrous!

What not many people don't realise is that Bernie has ALREADY been paid for the next few years British Grand Prixs. Octagon that used to lease Silverstone from the BRDC and were the GP promoters wanted out of their commitments to promote the GP till some date I'm not sure (I think it was about 2010) as they were losing shit loads of money from motorsport and other businesses, but Bernie would only release them from their commitments on payment of around $100million and then give him back the rights to promoting the GP.

Now he is arguing with the BRDC who cannot pay the full amount he wants to promote the race when in effect he would be getting paid twice as he has already had a huge windfall from Octagon to cancel an existing contract.

The guy is a complete bastard, and if the truth be known, he is putting the pressure on the BRDC as he wants to buy the circuit.

Thankfully the Silvertsone is owned by the members of the BRDC and they must agree to any sale, and all the members are all racers and ex racers and they know what would happen if Bernie ever got his hands on the track, so hopefully he would never get it.
