In defence of Viz!

Post by RetroDon »

It might not be as funny as it used to be (and they say as much themselves) but it still hits the mark more often than not. Some of the major characters, Fat Slags etc, may be getting very tired but the features and one-off strips are still ace. Check out "Sicko Phant" or "Elton John's Baccy Run" in the current issue... the mock newspaper reports, which are often worthy of Private Eye (another great read), are cracking too... there's a good one this month that starts "Despite skyscraping GCSE and A-level results, surveys show a shocking 60% of school leavers still can't tell their arse from their elbow..." Excellent stuff, and often more topical and near-the-mark than most boring bastards ever give them credit for... Long Live Viz!

I still get a few chucks out of it.

They were in it a few issues back - although there are lots of other new strips to make you titter

Not seen it for ages, though I recall the letters page being one of publishing's better guilty pleasures.
