Boris Johnson & Scousers

Post by SID THE CYNIC »

...... so was was SO wrong about what Boris said?

The Bigley sage was tragic, but why the bloody hell do we have to have this pantomine of public 'grief' everytime somebody we don't know gets killed in circumstances which hit the press.

All these sodding minutes silence are pathetic. And if the prayers of all Liverpudlians were with Bigley, they certainly weren't in church cos the shot on the telly have most of the pews at the cathedral empty.

Now we're having minutes silence for this poor lass shot in Nottingham.

Oh when will it end. Suppose it all started really with TonyB. Liar's nausiating speech after Diana was killed.

Get a grip folks. This clooective 'greiving' does nobody ANY good.

What Boris said is what most of us feel with Scousers wallowing in self pity.
True, they have had some VERY TRAGIC incidents with Hillsborough, Heysel and Jaime Bulger, but the whole city becomes a standstill with the outpouring of grief, and its as false as John Lennon
Liverpool is a dangerous place, and forget the myth that Scousers are 'salt of the earth' with 'great community spirit'
Why do public figures from McCartney to Rooney escape from Liverpool at the FIRST chance they get?
I have 2 good mates from Liverpool, and when they are on leave from the Army, where do they go? NOT Liverpool, thats for sure!!

Ace you have a fair point about the city and your point about scousers leaving Liverpool was one that was regularly and comically brought up by Harry Enfield.

However I make many visits to that city each year and I have alot of time for the people.

True I wouldn't like to live there and it does indeed have many problems but through it all the people of that city still have their wit and humour and the people are for the most part very welcoming.

Back to the point about scousers leaving the city never to return reminds me of my next door neighbour who is Scottish. He waxes lyrical about his homeland and regularly tells us what an absolutely fantastic place it is to live in.

Well if it's so fucking good then why does here live down here?

He has no answer to that.

I think the tragedy with the Heysel incident would have been felt more keenly by the relatives of the 39 Juventus fans that died after Liverpool fans surged forward, causing a wall to collapse.

That said, I'm not sure it's possible to accuse a whole city of wallowing in self-pity.

I actually like Boris, he doesn't take himself too seriously. I know several scousers and apart from one all are world class miserable gits. They all "love" Liverpool but never go near the place.

Bigley knew the dangers, he got very well paid, like investing high gain involves high risk. I have no sympathy for someone who works in a country which is a fucking war zone, what do they expect Tuscany, The Loire Valley, New England in the Fall?

Remember the daft TV series The Lakes? I loved the scene where the hard Head Chef interviewed the Scouse lad for a Pot Washers job with 2 questions, 1)Do you think yer hard? 2)Do you think yer funny? He said 'No' to both, and got the job (which was unbelievable if you want to be realistic about it - y'know, a scouser looking for work)

Whether or not you agree with the views expressed is entirely up to you, but its critique of a mere single alleged facet of the Liverpudlian character has brought forth a notable other: the one that won't allow itself to be insulted (and knows how to express it) and won't allow ridiculous cabaret wankers like Johnson (or whoever he's covering for) to take cheap, patronising potshots at a safe distance. This I applaud.
