Hats off to the courts for sending down 2 sergeants that are a disgrace to their regiment and the flag for which they serve.
Firstly, the US sergeant who got 8 years for his part of the torture of Iraqi POWs, and secondly, the down-graded instructer from the RLC (whom I have met before) who is ONLY getting Four and a half years for 5 sex attacks on new recruits.
The US sentence is a fair one whilst the UK one is a disgrace, and whats more, the chances are the US sergeant will be feted as a hero in prison for the abuse on enemy.
At least the UK Army instructer will get his just desserts everytime he drops the soap in the showers!!

I agree on both fronts but with the US guy I do get to wondering if he was a scapegoat or made an example of for political reasons.
Did he do what he did off his own back then or did it go higher than that? I think the latter and that they were instructed to treat the Iraq's that way from those much higher up in the chain of command.
If so then why aren't his superiors being carpeted? Obvious why I suppose.
As for being a hero in the nick then he will be if he's in a military prison.
If he's in a normal american prison then he might just be in trouble as there will be plenty of different ethnic groups in there and if they think it was racially motivated then he might be in for some of his own medicine.

Seems like the British army deals with its dodgy characters in the same way as the Roman Catholic church. When they get into trouble post them off to somewhere else.

Very true Mags, I actually met Skinner, although don't recollect anything about him other than he was demoted from a WO2 for flashing.
Its 'known' amongst the RLC and probably a few other regiments that the 5 killings were just that, and NOT suicide, with the exception of probably 1.
The SA-80 is indeed a mean cunt of a weapon, dispite its tendancy to jam in desert storms, although, it never happened to me on the ranges.
Seeing as Skinner is classed as a former instructer and was tried at Kingston, I imagine it was a Crown Court hearing with a custodial sentence at HM Prison and not a Court Martial with a spell at Colchester.
Either way, he has tarnished the good name of the RLC..but there are a good few more wankers like him....corporals were OK though

The Army, like most organisations and fraternaties DO cover their mistakes as its 'jobs for the boys' and wouldn't be seen to have anything other than a smooth running operation. However, they, like the Police do come down on the odd bad apple to show Joe Public that they are clamping down with internal misdemenours.
I'm sure Joe Public are smart enough to know that one here or there is just the tip of the iceburg. Downloading porn on the MoD PCs is rife, but now and then, they 'do' someone, usually a non-descript personnel and make an example by dismissing him from the Armed Forces, whilst the senior NCO's and Low ranking Officers breath a sigh of relief

The septic is in for a very hard time since he was a reservist who in civvy street is . . . . a prison warder. If he thought that was an acceptable way to treat prisoners, though, you have to wonder what sort of regime they run in Shitkicker Penitentiary, New Joisey.
The British guy I'm sure is just one of many similar types in HM Forces. For years allegations of bullying and abuse have been swept under carpets or dismissed as complaints by mummy's boys who weren't up to life in the military. Tip of the iceberg, perhaps?
