"Dozens held over ID fraud website"

no particular reason for posting this other than that i recently had to cut up a card when 700 smackers was syphoned from it after i made a purchase from a site whose security had been hacked (hundreds, if not thousands, of other of their customers were also defrauded).

i should say that it's the first time in seven years of surfing that i've experienced this sort of problem, and that's despite having bought a squillion things from almost as many websites. still, it's nice to know that a few of these online bottom-feeders will currently be experiencing considerably less than the recommended eight hours sleep per night.

Everybody is vulnerable to it...luck of the draw

I probably wouldn't buy online if I didin't have the backup of my Bank who will charge back any fraud straight away and any unreceived Goods within 60days

What peeves me off is how easy we make it for the fraudsters to use the stolen Info....I'm all for convenience but when you can ring up and order goods with just the credit card & expiry date in most cases you do wonder

Not directly related but a warning to the incautious.
An item on TV news this week about a woman making a purchase from Amazon who was suspicious when she was asked to supply her PIN along with credit card details. Further investigation discovered that her computer had been invaded by a nasty.
Moral (preached so often on here) Install and use Anti-virus, anti-spyware and a firewall.

It's worth noting that in the last three or four days a fair amount of the spam directed at me involves buying a Rolex. Needless to say, it isn't even read.
