I'll agree you can stick the US of As "dirty campaign" Politics and their Foreign Policy where the sun don't shine

Just heard in Houston there were TV ADS featuring the destruction of the twin towers being run side by side with a picture of the Republican Candidate laying the blame at his feet

Gets my vote for the most negative insensitive message ever invented

Everywhere in the world can be dangerous Mart even Australia which seems to have killed quite a few Foreign Tourists of late without the aid of guns

I've heard in New Zealand Maori Bikie Gangs are the biggest problem to tourists?

Please, not you as well Deuce. Where did I say there was no crime in NZ? I was specifically referring to Bimmercats's 75% of neighbourhoods where you won't get shot at night.

What motivates me to get out of bed in the morning is the pleasure of living in a country where I run very little risk of getting shot and whose government has stood up against bullyboy tactics from Uncle Sam.
You obviously intent on twisting my comments to suit your own agenda. Where have I said that nowhere else in the world do criminals shoot people?
Your arguments seem to parallel those of your current administration. If you are not 100% for us you must be against us. I don't hate the US. I do hate the current administration and your constantly repeated mantra that criticism of the US is motivated by envy, greed, jealousy and malice.

Not me What?

And yet your current system of firearm control in NZ leaves a lot to be desired

You might think your immune from the Gun fatalities figures in the US(due to to Gang Activity but never discount the threat on your own doorstep

I very much doubt there is any Country in the world where there is a 100 percent guarantee of not being shot at after dark

I'd never travel South or North of Adelaide because of the Gang element
Daytime/Nightime.....makes little difference

The rising trend of Non-Gang members arming themselves with concealed hand guns for protection when going out in OZ means you only have to be in the wrong place at the wrong time Once

It seems the larger the population the more this is the case
A generalisation for sure but there seesm to be an air of fear about driving poeple to such extremes

Hey Deuce, I never said there were no firearms in NZ, let alone denying there was a potential problem. But I still am horrified by Bimmercat's statement (by implication) that he wouldn't go into 25% of his neighboirhoods at night for fear of getting shot.
I remember on my first visit to the States in the 60's, my then girl-friend and I were at her student brother's apartment in Boston. He wouldn't let her go down the block in broad daylight on her own.
On the the other hand, one of my cousins (living at that time in the States)visited NZ a couple of years ago and was amazed that it was OK to walk through the centre of Wellington at night.
So I am not totally ignorant of the situation and attitudes elsewhere.

Everything is relative Mart and i never said you were talking out of your proverbial

I'm guessing Boston is slightly bigger than Wellington in all areas

Most Cities have ghettos or suburbs which are classed as No Go Zones unless you live there...bottom line is there are poor decent people who manage and there are poor people who turn to using or dealing drugs
Their the ones packing the heat to protect their turf

The bigger the city the more likely their will be No GO Zones IMHO

Hey Bimmercat, you really sure you wouldn't want to live in Chicago?!

5 fatal shootings in just 12 hours

Violence strikes in 3 different areas of Chicago

In a little more than 12 hours from Wednesday evening to Thursday morning, five people--including a 14-year-old boy walking with his father--were killed in incidents across the city.

The rash of shootings over so few hours is hardly unprecedented. But in a year when police have overseen a dramatic drop in gang violence, the bloodshed drew several ongoing gang conflicts into sharper focus. Police planned to scramble resources and bear down on neighborhoods on the South, Southwest and Northwest Sides in order to curb further retaliation.

As of Thursday, Chicago had 392 murders for the year, 125 fewer than the same date last year.

The string of killings began shortly before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when Salvador Cortez, 25, was shot and killed in the 2200 block of North Melvina Avenue as he and his girlfriend were pulling his car into a parking spot around the corner from his apartment.

Cortez's roommates said he was an auto technician at a Saturn dealership and had nothing to do with gangs. Police did not know whether the shooting was gang-motivated, but the area has been plagued with escalating violence rooted in a four-gang conflict over turf along Austin Boulevard.

About an hour after Cortez was killed, several blocks away in the 5200 block of West LeMoyne Avenue, another man was shot in the head. Germayne Phillips, 24, of the 3200 block of West Fulton Boulevard, died Thursday evening, said a spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner's office. Police pointed to an ongoing violent struggle over drug dealing on the block as a likely explanation.

In Pilsen, the violence continued shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday as 14-year-old Christian Perez was walking with his father when he was cut down by rifle fire from a vehicle that pulled up to the curb, police said.

The killing came on the heels of two murders and a shooting earlier in the week in nearby Little Village that police believe is part of an ongoing Latin Kings and 2-6 gang feud, said Harrison Area Deputy Chief of Patrol Charles Williams.

Police and friends acknowledge that Perez, a De La Cruz Middle School 8th-grader, had joined a gang only recently and had no serious criminal history, Williams said.

Police are looking into several motives for the murder, he said, but "I'm not ready at this point to say it's gang-related."

"It's really upsetting, especially because he was with his father," said Williams, who added that police officials would be discussing the sudden surge in violence with community groups in the Little Village neighborhood on Friday. "We're vigorously following up on this."

Perez's father, Juan Gillermo Perez, said he was walking about 20 feet behind his son in the 1900 block of South Hoyne Avenue as a black pickup truck pulled up from an alley, made a U-turn on Hoyne and a man sitting in the passenger seat opened fire with a rifle at his only son. After shooting the boy, the gunman opened fire on the father, who escaped without injury.

"They hit the gas, and they left. I came back to pick up my son," Perez said.

"He was a good boy," he said. But when asked if he was involved in gangs, he said: "I don't know."

The boy's friends built a small memorial near the spot where he fell. They lighted three votive candles and placed them inside a cardboard Budweiser box brought by the owner of a tavern on the corner. The friends then laid a rose and a Mexican flag over the box to celebrate the boy's street name, "Little Mexicano."

Carlos Pedrote, 17, said Perez had been wearing gang colors of a yellow jacket and had a black hat dangling from his pocket. Pedrote was driving past the corner where Perez was shot and pulled over when he heard the shots. He said by the time he reached the boy, Juan Perez was pressing on his son's chest trying to staunch the bleeding.

"The first thing he said to his father was to take care of his sister," Pedrote said. "He was a little kid. He didn't even graduate from grammar school."

And then about 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Justin Peters, 21, and Robert Mitchell, 28, who were sitting in a car, were shot to death by a man wearing a ski mask, witnesses said. Police believe the murders were motivated by a drug dispute.

Robert Peters said his son, Justin, was "a lovable young man," but he didn't deny that Justin was often in trouble. Justin Peters had a felony conviction for stealing a car and had been charged with a shooting when he was a juvenile.

"He just had an uncanny talent for finding the wrong friends," Peters said. "So I went down to the morgue and identified my baby. And that's about all I can tell you."
