I wasnt going to post in this thread but maybe you guys could answer me something. Why is Purple Rain SUCH a classic? Id never really heard it until like 5 minutes ago and its beautiful but i dont quiite get the all time classic status endowed on it

oh and here are some of the songs that have created "mini-revolutions" in my musical listening life

cemetary gates = pantera (and most other stuff)
welcome to paradise - green day (and all other stuff)
i aint mad atcha - tupac (and lotta other stuff)
from outta nowhere - faith no more (and all other stuff)
quote unquote - mr bungle (geniussss)
4th July - Soundgarden (and all other stuff)
rooster - alice in chains (and all other stuff)

not that varied and each one of those songs is on a par with many other songs by the same artists, but each of those songs was a massive fork/diversion in my path as a listener/fan/guitar player
