smart media card help

I have got one of the memory cards with some pictures on them, before I used it I formatted it on the camera, now I come to view the images on my PC and before I can access the images the PC is asking to format the card which will mean losing the images.

Can anybody suggest a way around the format option.

Sounds strange to me - can you view pictures on the camera confirming they really are on the card?
Are you trying to download to PC using the camera and cable or a seperate card reader?

I got round my original problem with the card by taking the card to a camerashop and they wereable to recover the images and burn them to a cd for ?5, but they did say the card was corrupt, odd considering it was brand new and had been formatted before use etc. I did get a replacememt card and had the same problem but that was down to a dirty contact on the card.
I was and still am using a reader rather than direct from the camera as I've lost the cable, and have the same problem again with an mp3 player and music in the flash memory that I want to put onto my iPod.

I think my problems may be at an end. I have just got an aftermarket lead for my mp3 player, rather than paying over 27 pounds for a genuine manufacturer part I have just paid a fiver from a local electronics shop.
