Absolutely, now please excuse me while I polish my Sinclair C5.
Agressive drivers...
Re: Agressive drivers...
"I guess the one advantage of petrol being so expensive everywhere else in the world is that you do not get to experience loads of these behemoth monster SUVs all over your roads, blocking your view...you're not missing a thing."
If only that were true. A first-time visitor to Wellington (the capital of NZ) could be forgiven for thinking that the roads must be unsurfaced and no bridges exist over rivers and streams.
And the main purpose of these gas-guzzling, environmentally destructive monsters? Taking the kids to school (can't the little buggers walk?) and super-sized supermarket shopping trolleys.

Their seen as the safest vehicle to be in
I'd wager this assumption makes them worse drivers over all
and the fact that when a SUV hits a sedan side-on its goodnight fro anyone in the sedan says a lot about SUVs to me
cheers

I must say that I find it is the vehicle I am driving that determines other drivers moods, when I am out in the truck we shoot the road trips in, everyone is nice, they all smile at me and the wagon rolls on.
I have a little ?800 screamer that I use day to day, and although clean and tidy, because it is an old banger, other drivers treat it as such.

Bigger definitely gets respect probably through fear from other drivers
The only exception being people have no idea of how far a Big Rig takes to go from 60 to stationary...scary watching the number of cars that pull into a Big Rigs braking space coming up to a red light...stupidity or lack of driver training?

I'm sure the large "Sperm Donor" sign in the rear window doesn't help..lol
Cars are for getting from a to b and the less time spent in them the better especially considering the carnage that happens on the roads everyday
I've always found the saying "you don't own a car,it owns you" spot on

Good point BUT at the same time, in my opinion, some of the worst drivers on the roads are truck drivers. For so called professional drivers they change lane without signalling, regularly pull out into gaps that a car would sometimes struggle to fit into knowing that the car driver will slow cos in a coming together the car will always lose and they are notorious for tailgating. Not to mention the number of them who drive along reading or eating or on phones or whatever and the number of trucks on the road with speed limiters blatantly removed - sometimes I also wonder if the truck drivers realise just how potentially lethal the vehicle they are in is....

Re: Agressive drivers...
There are bad drivers across the spectrum, largely due to how easily they got their licence in the first place IMHO
Truck drivers are under the cosh with ridiculous time tables that only a robot could meet safely
I knew a 30 year old father of 3 that used to play fastest one home in peak hour traffic with his co-worker.He said it was his extreme sport. The sort of idiot that should have been put down at birth
Even under todays extensive test many expert drivers who teach defensive driving courses say the tests are still not up to scratch simply because they fail to cover all possible events out on the open road
The biggest killer in OZ is when City Kids do their first open road trip
They haven't the skills to handle going from 60kmph to 100/110kmph
Its no mistake that the time period of 5 years is said to be how long it takes to become a competent driver under ALL conditions
In that 5 years alot of KIDS are injured for life or killed
cheers

Being a couple of feet above the potential collision area does seem to instil a cavalier attitude in many of these knights of the road. How many times do you see it in a newspaper---X amount die in crash . . . . . lorry driver uninjured.
Of course, to some of them, they are professional drivers and we have no right being on their roads.

Re: Agressive drivers...
We have "maximum" speed limits on our roads, why not "minimum" speed limits (depending on the road classification) then, if a vehicle can't reach or maintain that speed it wouldn't be allowed to use it.
Of course, other external influences do affect the speed traffic can go on any particular road.
