During a period of prolonged boredom, waiting for my next erection (having had an orgasim three weeks ago!) I did a little research on this site. I have always been intrigued by the constant reference to "class" on the forum and have gained the impression that, in Britain anyway, sex and porn are there for the entertainment of the working class only. Middle class and upper class do it only to procreate, and watch porn to see what the working classes do, That's the impression that I've gained, anyway. (I'm one of those bloody foreigners, you see!) So, I looked at all the names on the Girls database, and was really alarmed to see that there is a serious shortage of good, old fashioned working class English names.
For eample - Doreen - only 1. Doris - none. Brenda. none.
Gladys, Alice, Cecily, Iris, Lettice, Joyce, Mildred, Nora, Noreen, Olive, Vera, Vi are all without any representaion at all. There is one Irene, one Millie, only three Olives, and Alicia only appears twice.
We have twenty-three Donna's and twenty-seven Michelles!! (The name I love most is Flick Shagwell!!! Sadly, there's only one of those.)
So the question is - What's in a name? Is it all part of the fantasy (you know, meeting a much better class of women) or is it meant to be a part of the marketing mix, branding, positioning and all that. By the way, branding and positioning is not necessarily kinky stuff. Flick Shagwell would certainly attract more attention, initially, that Gladys Brown, but is that the reason?

Re: Girls Names
More a reflection of current trends in nomenclature than class, I think: compare your list with the Times' yearly top ten, taken from Birth Announcements. Ffion, Camilla etc tend not to be very popular with the so-called 'working class', and the richer strata tend not to go in for porn acting for a variety of socioeconomic reasons.
Expect, in porn of about 18 years' hence, a rash of Elizabeths (for the Jubilee) and Chardonnays (but probably not Trockenbeerauslese Gewurtztraminer).
What's in name?............

Re: Girls Names
I would have said Cecily is not only old-fashioned but also upper class. There is probably a shortage of 'good old-fashioned working class names' in the population as a whole. Flick Shagwell is not only not a real name, but one that seems to have been invented for Rebecca Lee in the USA, though not necessarily the Flick part. Blame MIke Myers. For Michelle blame the Beatles.
If it was entirely to do with marketing or chosen to promote a fantasy there would be a lot fewer Donnas I think. I suspect the names are mostly a representative sample of general fashions in girls' names in the UK. Class undoubtedly influences choice of name, but not always in a simple way, as not-so-posh parents may sometimes choose what they think is a posher name for their offspring.
These are murky waters.
In the sense sometimes used on the forum, the term 'class' is indefinable anyway and does not necessarily equate to social rank. You will also hear it used in a sporting context, where it is equally vague. The best definition I've heard in this context is 'grace under pressure'.

Re: Girls Names
The names noted as missing haven't been British working class names for about 40 years! Being one of the proletariat myself I can confirm that Donna, Claire, Amanda(!), Patricia, Sharon, Jane, Michelle, Rebecca, Sarah, etc, are all very popular among us folks.
Incidentally, in 20 years expect a run on Kylies.

Re: Girls Names
What I would like to know is why do UK girls have to invent a silly name to work in america? Examples of perfectly nice sounding names such as Rebekah Jordan, Rebecca Lee, Sarah Read suddenly have to be dropped in favour of new names for the US market ie Kinki, Flick Shagwell, and I have forgotten Sarah Reads US name but you know what I mean. The list goes on.
I know that in the states girls are called things like Summer Breeze, Sandy Beach, Misty Rains etc. I hope we as Brits do not follow this stupid american trend.

Re: Girls Names
I think Sarah Read called herself Angel Long before she went to the States.
However, the current confusion over 'Ashley' is a pain, being the British name for Amy Ball (and also used in the American production, but filmed in UK, Sin Twins) and the American name for Melissa Walker (apart from in UK Student House where she is also called Ashley). Pause for database compiler to tear out remaining hair. There's some merit in using a distinctive name, even if it's silly.

Re: Girls Names
And, given some of the silly names used on this forum, do I hear the sound of stones breaking glass?

Re: Girls Names
After all we are talking about a Fantasy Industry not real life.
For the record Claire is class with a capital C.
Just to prove how different UK porn is to US porn do you think if Claire Butland was a Yank she would have changed her performing name to Claire Green?
cheers
