Topical due to the death yesterday of a two-year-old child hit by an airgun pellet a couple of days ago while accompanying his brother to the shops. Someone in custody so can't say too much about it. . .

But the laddie seems to have been hit by a stray shot during an attack on firefighters who'd allegedly been lured to the area in order to be shot at.

A kid in his teens would have to be a complete halfwit to shoot at someone whose job entails saving lives; the man in custody for the shooting is 27.

This kind of thing has been going on for years, but I'm hoping someone can explain to me what the reasoning is behind making hoax calls to the fire brigade, and what the reasoning is behind attacking emergency workers. What kind of cretin thinks it's cool to start a bonfire, then throw rocks at the people sent to put it out?

Let's hope that the law can give them some justice.

I know Firefighters & Paramedics who are attacked in this manner almost daily. The reason......cos the Morons who carry out these mindless acts almost always get away with it. If they're unlucky enough to get caught the punishment is a joke.
We had a local case recently where 2 youths robbed a local garage at gunpoint. Turns out they get community service cos they only used an air pistol!
In my book & according to the law, Armed robbery is Armed robbery be it with a Shotgun or a Cucumber.
The law if applied to its full extent would put them away forever.
In this case It's Murder or attempted Murder at the very least & the additional Firearms offences all carry statutory punishments varying from 5yrs to life imprisonment. It's about time the CPS got its collective finger out & put these Morons where they belong.

I play golf with a couple of firemen. Both of them have to put with abuse, missiles etc when attending incidents. However, if they turned the hosepipe on the offending twats they would be disciplined. The law is indeed as ass.

Depression,pure & simple....makes people react in a number of ways but this sort of anti-social targetting of emergency services would be at the extreme end of the spectrum

Its estimated in Australia 2004 there were 800,000 depressed amongst a population of less than 20 million so the UK is most likely larger

Most that are depressed have feelings of anger but don't act on them due to various intervention programs,common sense or upbringing

Thats leaves a small percentage that go undiagnosed (1 percent)which is where your assailant is probably from
