TV shows ruined by over sentimentality

Been watching some cracking early episodes of Minder recently, and last night watched one were Tel boy finds a kid on his doorstep, with anote telling him he's his son? (Sharon Deuce played his mum)
Turns out hes not at the end, but a pile of shit collage of Terry swinging him round at the end in slow mo fucking ruined it, and I almost snapped the DVD
One more like this and I'm defecting to when T' boat comes T' in or some shit

Yeah Arnie, that TOTALLY ruined a cracking episode, especially Terry and Tosh from The Bill scrapping........Second best fight Terry had next to the beating he took chasing 'Jock' down the road on a bus, I think thats was the only time he was beaten.
Some classic Star Trek episodes were like that, y'know, cracking episode and Capt Kirk falling in love and the camera goes into 'soft focus' mode and that annoying music plays...............she inevitably dies as well

I imagine at the time of broadcast it was more an attempt to bring another dimension to his character rather than the crass tug at the heartstrings we get too much of these days.

Good show Minder, of course - George Cole's fine portrayal of seedy Daley in many ways superior to D. Jason's similar Delboy (now there's a character and show ruined by sentimentality).

it was good at first, then went on, and on, they never got it, then they finally did! then they lost it, and got it

Only Fools and Horses was wrecked by sentimentality - in the end I found virtually unwatchable. What was once a fairly realistic, enjoyable comedy became over-budgeted and over-indulgant as well as ridiculous

i dont think i could watch when the boat comes in again seemed hard to follow in 1976 ;bonnylass very mild winter though.
