Maiden were a total class act up until the 'Wasted Years' album

'Number of the Beast' is one of the best metal albums ever

Dude if you fancy a trip down memory lane Dio is due over later this year to tour the UK and he's playing two sets each night the first of which is the complete "Holy Diver" album. Chuck in a few Rainbow and Black Sabbath classics in the second set and you've got one hell of a setlist!

Painkiller is an awesome track but it is VERY heavy and intense compared to a lot of their other stuff. The Painkiller album is superb throughout but I'm VERY impressed with their new album, "Angel of Retribution." It took a while to sink in but it's classic Priest.

I never said they weren't Good(I have Number of the beast limited 2 Color Disc Edition) just that I didn't and still don't consider them to be authentic
Heavy Metal even though their mentioned often in articles/History like this

Guess my definition of heavy metal is stuck with those bands that started it

Number of the Beast doesn't hold a candle to the likes of Deep Purples 'In Rock' or 'Machine head' IMHO for Heavy

As they say each to his own

cheers

Re: headbanging!

Post by Deuce Bigolo »

Should never be tried by anyone over 30 ;-)

eadbanging is a type of dance which involves violently shaking your head in time with music, most commonly heavy metal music. It is most visually effective when the person headbanging has long hair.

There are various styles of headbanging, including:

The up and down - Which involves shaking your head up and down
The circular swing - Swinging your head in a circlar motion - This style is more commonly known as the Windmill or Helicopter.
The half-circle - Swinging your head repeatedly from side to side in a downward arc
The figure of 8 - Which involves shaking your head in a figure of 8
The side to side - Which involves shaking your head from side to side, whipping your hair on each transition
They can be mixed together and varied according to taste and the tempo and aggression of the music.

Additionally, it is common to find people's bodies banging with the head, having the body move in a serpentine fashion up-and-down along with the music.

I can see where you're coming from but I can't agree Maiden weren't a major part of British metal in the early days (70's for me).

they definately were a major force in the so called 'new wave of british heavy metal' which followed from the likes of Purple, Sabbath and Zepplein

like you say though, eye of the beholder and all that

Very few songs are like that...I can recall hearing The Scorpions darkly intense song 'Sails on Charon' and being blown away compared to all their other show stoppers

I can see myself forking out for the 73-93 JP collection(cheap bastard that I am)

Any comp with Turbo Lover & Breaking the law has to be worth a listen....biting lyrics with awesome riffs

New material after so many albums is always going to be a gradual thing

cheers
