Songs you can't get out of your head

Post by Arnold Layne »

Just been taping somone some cassettes, and was doing "Genesis the platinum collection" and I really do not like Phil Collins music, too poppy, and he comes across as a twat, but when I got to the Gabriel era stuff I thought hang on! there's something here!

Poppy describes Phil Collins to a tee...worse than Abba at their BEST some of those singles

His only decent offerings are usually slow

Against All Odds...In The Air Tonight...Man on the Corner

His site is quite a mine of info about Genesis

Are those the ones with that dude with big fuck off bi-focals?

I remember some bank in the late 80's early 90's used Crockett's Theme which I still like.

However....I'm a secret lemonade drinker...R.Whites...R.Whites has to be the best ad tune ever along with the Flake music.

Excellent choice but may I point you in the direction of

'Shoop Shoop Diddy Wop Cumma Cumma Wang Dang' by Monte Video and the Cassettes....new zealand music from 1983/84 at its most infectious

Oh bloody hell Arnie not bleedin' "I know what I like!" I bloody hate that song although I adore Genesis. Check out "Carpet Crawlers" on that collection for a lush ballad with an awesome vocal from Peter Gabriel, gently building to a glorious climax. Can't believe you aren't digging the likes of "Mama" and "No Son Of Mine" from the Collins era.

Currently stuck in my head is "Underground Army" by Anastacia and "Pictures of Matchstick Men" by Ozzy Osbourne with Type O Negative from Ozzy's KILLER "Prince Of Darkness" 4 disc set. This shouldn't work on paper, Ozzy with a goth' band covering Status Quo...what da fuck! A curio at best on paper but, in reality, a phenomenal performance.

Life without music is no life at all.

Thats almost as bad as losing out to Australian Crawl and the wonderful diction of James Reyne but certainly not as bad as Kylie Minogues signature tune...cmon cmon do the Locomotion with me....

Love em or hate em catchy throw away songs are what usually peak at No1

There were some laughable Aussie bands around then that were successful
in OZ but no where else

Kids in the Kitchen
Uncanny X-men warning...mullett hairdos within

cheers

I've just been watching an old video of 80's Top Of The Pops' - and now I can't Haysi Fantayzee out of my head....
Much better than I remember though... a golden age for music, even the "pop" was mostly good, and it's amazing how some 20+ year old pop songs still sound remarkably fresh and contempory...
