Looking over a few old Mayfairs and Men Only's from the 1980's at the weekend.
From a personal view I think the standard of photography then and the early 90's was the best ever. The likes of the late Donald Milne and Joanne Allum sets are nearly all classics. Their attention to detail, i.e. lingerie matching a bedside lamp etc. all added to the overal "glamour" effect. Also the lighting was always first class.
Thats my view.......any commnets ????

Re: Best Photographer !
Yes, must agree Some of those photographers you mensioned did get the right attension to detail.
Another one to add is Viv Thomas & Chantel Thomas who took some great picture sets and pics were published in the likes of Mayfair & Men Only ..and many other PRP mags. Viv still takes photos but he is better known for his fim work as well.
Have a look at the picture sets of the quality on this post:-

Re: Best Photographer !
Ahhhh.......the days when the mags paid a decent amount for a purchase, which enabled the photographer to build a set unique and specific to one shoot.
Since the moneys never gone up, a changing rooms style mix and match props mentality has evolved which sees the same sets and props used to exhaustion.

We have need of you again, great king.

Re: Best Photographer !
I can remember the days when Roy Stuart and I used to get ?6000 commission to shoot set's for Excelsior and Casanova (two Italian mags) back in the mid 80's. Now as Peter has mentioned above the money is comparitively awful and almost a waste of time.
Re: Best Photographer !
Dave,
why has it gone this way, is it over supply of photographers, quality doesn't count nower days, is it an over supply of young ladies wanting to strip naked etc. or is it a just a case of "the good olde days".
As far as I can understand, Paul Raymond and Gold publishers are still making very good money, so who's zooming who??

Lets face it hitman, all Viv did was copy Jack Harrison.
I would also like to mention Jeff Kaine, who was one of in my opinion, one of the most influencial photographers of the eighties.
