books
Re: books
I haven't touched the prequels. The reason he may have lost his way is that there must be a cast of hundreds kicking around, and it's difficult for the reader to remember who is who.

Re: books
You need a memory like mine
By the time I get to the end of the book I'd be hardpressed to tell you what happened at the start
The deverry series I mentioned is far worse because the story tends to jump all over the place, present & the past and as all the characters are re-born into a different name you ned a complete listing of previous characters to really understand the significance of whats being said
cheers

Re: books
I read the first set, but couldn't be bothered with any of the next lot. And, such is the nature of much fantasy fiction, I'd be hard pushed to tell you what it was all about now. Ms Kerr struck me as a fairly good writer, but being unable to recall the storyline is rather worrying!

Re: books
the prequel slots in quite nicely, no new major people, just the main ones already around (Lan/Moiraine/Sanche/Elaida) It's not too heavy on the brain, almost like an add on chapter to any of the later books. It fed the additction while waiting for the next in the series, two years between series books suggests to me he's having trouble working out how to finish it as he's gone off on so many tangents he doesn't know how to get back to the main story
we are Leeds.... , and we can still beat the mighty Chester

Re: books
admittedly I am a hoarder of books, it's not something I can throw away, and I do re read the good ones many times, i've re read the wheel of time series three or four times whilst waiting for the next one at various times

Re: books
The five principal characters have dozens of others orbiting them, and there's no clear focus. Readers will concentrate on their favourite strand of the story.
I do suspect if he was writing The Eye Of The World today, it'd be three books.
Like you, I have to reread every few years just to catch up with who is who.

Re: books
What storyline....good vs evil with a whole host of medieval characters repeating the same scenes over & over about somes it up
I'll take Stephen Lawheads Pendragon Cycle & The Celtic Crusades anyday
At least they have a start & a finish which isn't hard to recall
cheers

Re: books
Lawhead's stuff is good, I'll grant you that.
I'm rereading Farenheit 451 at the moment. Amazing how few words Bradbury needs to tell his stories, and how he can be almost poetic with an effortless ease.

Re: books
Just read a review an realised,I have read it
A good read,that I vaguely recall
The ending won't be difficult even with there being stories going on all over the continent...the Dark One finally breaks out and chaos ensues resulting in death & destruction most likely in one almighty epic battle but inevitably good triumphs over evil with most of the main characters biting the big one
cheers
