video downloads with licences - problem

Post by pj »

I signed up to a site and downloaded some HUGE vids. Now, every time I go to play them, connects for a licence and then asks for the password I used when I joined the site. I want to transfer the vids to a PC with no internet connection and write them to cd as they take up too much hard drive space.

They play using Windows Media. Is there any way of playing the video without having to be on an internet connected PC and having to enter a password every time?

Help!!!

Thanks in advance,

Pj

Ok, thanks for that. Damn shame. I guess I could write them 2 cd anyway and just play them on a PC with the internet whenever I want.

Not at the minute would be the simple answer although I'm sure some hacker is working on it

Apples Ipod/Music seems to be the one thats currently under serious attack

All us punters can really do is look into the sites that are using it and just make sure its a DRM licence thats granted for life and not just when your a member

Never ever throw away those User IDs & Passwords as many have done(myself included)

All very inconvenient really but thats what its going to take to combat Piracy

I know, was just using as an example of DRM being under attack

What flows from Music usually makes its way over to Film...eventually

A feeble example maybe but it does highlight that hackers are always on the go...for all we know DRM might already be hacked...just depends on who does it and how they use it as to wether we will know

Do you know what file format your movie is in?

There may be a way of converting the file to a non-DRM'd format but you will likely lose quality on transcoding and also perhaps one from (re)capturing.

They're all .wmv files. about 50 minutes long.Ok, I could place a camcorder in front of the monitor and record it, then have a non-licence copy. But, I ain't a pirate, all I want is to watch the vid offline. It's just a pain habving to log in every time to watch them.
