I frequent some US based chatrooms and webcams and have noticed how often an inhabitant will claim, not only to be serving in Iraq but almost always to be a marine.
This website, one of many, probably explains it.

Considering that one of our SAS or SBS guys is a match for 5 of their USMC guys, I'm not impressed with someone boasting about being in the USMC not one bit.
