The broadband cable is seperate from your phone line.
I have NTL BB and a phone line in this room and can use both at the same time if that helps.
If you wanted to use the phone line to get on the net, you'd have to use some dial up shit.
Your BB connection would be live 24/7.

BUT WITHOUT MY BRUCE LEE SIG BECAUSE HE'S TOO HARD FOR THIS PLACE...

you can share a broadband connection with other pc's in the house by either using a router/modem or just simply connecting the pc's together with a network cable.

I don't know what the situation is in the UK vis a vis ADSL but thats what I have for broadband here in NZ and that uses the same phone line with filters. So I can use both at the same time.

I'm not saying they're the best or cheapest but my broadband is with British Telecom and has just been upgraded from 512kbs to 2000kbs (2mbs) for the same monthly fee.

There's 3 PC's here networked via an ADSL router and the speed with all 3 accessing the internet is still very acceptable.

And of course the phone is still useable too (for "dial-up" internet acess if required) or ordinary phone calls.

Are you on Bt Yahoo Broadband with the Alcatel Speedtouch Usb modem? I want to do networking with 1 other pc and a laptop in our house. How would I go about this-what equipment do you use? Thanks.

No, I'm with BT Business Broadband.
I'm using an "eTec" ADSL Ethernet/USB router. It's got Ethernet ports for 4 PCs to connect to the network. It's also got a built in ADSL modem with harware NAT firewall.

For you maybe an ADSL router that has a wireless connection for the laptop?

Good luck
