Now this did knock me for six, great voice and fantastic singer. How many ladies have we smooched with Luther playing in the background?
A HUGE loss, even more so as he was relaunching his career

Its usually dead drummers that grab my attention, but in the case of Luther, I will make an exception.
We are all going to die if you like it or not.

Now you gotta wonder who's going to be the third? These things always happen in 3's - first Richard Whitely now Luther....

Luther Vandross was the first music I ever bought, Gimme the reason, Stop to love, also a great Duet with the late great Gregory Hines "There's nothing better than love" classics!
Wednesday night at the Berwick manor, bringing back the memories now Ace,

yes, a sad day for all lovers of soul...

luthers best work was long behind him but there's no doubting his was one of the most exceptional vocal talents of the past 25 years. his debut albums from the early eighties- 'never too much' & 'forever, for always, for love' - are two of the most sublime creations ever to grace the soul genre. there's something miraculous in the way that the diamond hard rhythms of drummer yogi horton and bassist marcus miller are so perfectly counterpoised by the gossamer orchestral arrangements of paul riser, providing the perfect landscape for luther's endless quest for love, love, LOVVVE!!! check out 'you're the sweetest one' or 'you stopped loving me' and you'll see what i mean. peerless...

In the world of soul in the 80's, Luther was a diamond.
His version of "Superstar" is sublime, and my personal favourite is "The Night I Fell In Love" album from 85, a cd I still listen to regularly all the way through 20 years later. I didn't pay that much attention to his work post-"Give Me The Reason", but the "Dance With My Father" set he'd finished when he had the stroke is sublime.
Woodgnome got it spot on, the arrangements and production on his albums were fantastic, way above most of the other 80's souls of the time.
