this is the same enlightened fellow who wanted david cronenberg's 'crash' despatched to the breakers yard for inciting auto-erotica, death race 2000 stylee.

yep but the female directors wanted to be "pense provoking" by intimating that the protagonists wanted to be raped...which is somewhat paradoxical/nonsensical.. or is it a non-sequiteur? I don't the right word for this... a bit like saying.. "here, steal this from me".. doesn't quite gel.. All very clever and french anyway...

Not so much a review as a torrent of bile and hate against the BBFC. Now I know none of us likes the BBFC very much (!), but one way of looking at their decision to allow this film general release, is they feel confident that, at last, the Great British Public will be able to make their own minds up as to weather they go and see the film, or not. From AW's review, I suspect there will be considerably more punters from the mainstream filmgoer, rather than Arthouse fans to which this film is probably aimed.
If AW has any children, one can judge from his rather victorian spoutings concerning sex in general that is is only because he was doing his duty.....and nothing more!

i dont get it. a critic from the daily mail/standard slagging off a film with naked girls is one thing, but slagging off a *french* film? now theres a first

its just his view,and if you are a daily mail reader you probably agree with him,don't see what the big fuss is about.i reckon the majority of people in this country are against or would vote against relaxation of our censorship laws so his point of view is just as valid as someone who would like to see censorship banned.

Of course it's just his view, Zasuna, but the point here is that in his (influential) position as a 'national daily' reviewer, he exercises much more clout over peoples thoughts than if he had spouted the same stuff to a load of mates down the pub, and the Daily Mail readers of this world have in many cases self-appointed themselves as Guardians of Public Morals to the exclusion of any semblance of reason or contact with reality, and low tollerance viewpoints such as AW's only fuel their bigotted standpoints even more.

I know that it's not terribly constructive to get personal about this, but it is worth noting that Alexaxnder Walker's self-confessed way of handling smokers in restaurants where he happens to be eating is to approach their table and spit in their food. His view is that this is as intrusive as their smoking. This does lead to doubts about his reasoning capability and his thougth processes, particularly in respect of what he thinks is good/bad for other people.
And another thing ....... Have you noticed that he wears the most ridiculous comb-over since Booby Charlton first established that piece of tonsorial elegance?
