Just received a very authentic looking email

Dear eBay member,
We at eBay are sorry to inform you that we are having problems with
the billing information of your account. We would appreciate it if you
would visit our eBay Billing Center and fill out the proper
information that we are needing to keep you as an eBay member. If you don't comply until the 31st May 2005, your eBay membership may be suspended, or even deleted.

Pity they didn't get the wording quite right. But some people will fall for it.

I've been getting loads of similar paypal ones, not to mention from online bank companies, none of which seem to got to the sites you might expect. I suppose if they catch out one in 150, they think it's worthwhile. But they're not really thieves, just Del Boy-style wide boys, like all those nice people who knock off pirate DVDs and albums, and the ones that import the cheap baccy (which may have some dangerous additives, but what do you expect for the price).

So long as the guy in the street is prepared to pay someone for dodgy gear, and reckons it's not real crime---not like robbing a bank or mugging an old lady---it will continue.

Victimless crime doesn't exist, but that's the part you don't like to boast about down the boozer when you're telling everyone about the designer stuff you got for ?20.
